Welcome to the board. Looks pretty decent. Any idea on how many miles the engine had on it? First thing you should do is check the valve shims on it. Exhaust looks pretty. If you haven't done so already make sure you read the New Members Thread. Very helpful to have read that first if you haven't done so already. |

The original engine must have been corrupted somehow. The PO(s) may have done something stupid or a gremlin created havoc and had it for lunch. Enjoy |

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. I've already done some reading on the new members thread, very informative.
I don't have much information on the history of the bike, the previous owner only had it for a few months before his new wife bought him something more shiney. The engine swap isn't the biggest of concerns really, just kind of...different. If I find a 1000 engine down the road at a reasonable price, I'll pick it up and throw it in.
I have no real plans for the bike other than getting it running right and looking good. |

The 1000C is a one year model, so parts (including a complete motor) tend to be harder to find. Although, you could turn that 900 into a 985 if you wanted a fun project! |

@Whozaa Fun projects always perk my interests! I will have to look into that.
@genesound Yep, that's what I have. On the up side, at least if anything goes wrong parts should be a little easier to find.
@holysmokes Due to work keeping me busy, I haven't been able to run a full diogostic on it. All I've found out so far is that I get a 1v drop when I turn it on and I see no increase in voltage under 6k rpm (the highest I went due to it being night and having neighbors). |

If the impedance of the rotor/stator checks out, and the rectifier checks out ok, and you are getting some rise in voltage at higher RPMs, but not enough to charge, then check and clean your grounds. Indeed, you might want to do that anyway, just in case.
Battery lug, battery->frame, the lug up under the gas tank (assuming these bikes are like that; I can't remember), and the regulator connectors.
The ground being subpar can make enough of a voltage drop across the regulator reference wire that it won't put out a high enough voltage, but you might still get some rise in voltage at higher RPM (indeed, it was enough to bump start the bike and ride it for hundreds of miles, in my case; just that the battery wouldn't charge), as it might still ground in a roundabout and poor way through the turn signal stalks.
I just recently chased that one all around and around in circles... Poor ground can make it seem like other electrical components are acting up when they're really not. Makes for some real headscratchers sometimes! |

has new battery, checked and cleaned all connections and grounds, only test it failed was incorrect voltage between black and white wires at plug from rotor to voltage reg/rect. now to find a good rotor and get him running again. Gotta Love the Honda. I ride a 2005 VT750C Shadow Aero, just turned 80K miles. |
