Just passing through

Greetings. I currently have custody of a 1981 CB900C. The bike belongs to my brother but while he's deployed with the Army I took possession of it to undo the damage caused by him and the previous owners, including two burned exhaust valves.

I'm an Air Force B-52 crew chief, I have my civil A&P certificate, and I've been wrenching on old Jap bikes since I was 12.

I currently have three motorcycles of my own. The baby of the group is a 1997 Suzuki TL1000S, next down the line is a 1978 Suzuki GS1000 that I'm building up to be one hell raiser of a machine, and my oldie is a 1968 Bridgestone 350 GTR that my grandfather just recently gave to me. My past bikes were two 1972 CL450s, a 1974 CB360G, and a 1973 CL360.

As the title says, I'm just passing through. I signed up so I could access the service manual download and to check out any tips or tricks to working on the CB. I just thought it would be rude not to introduce myself.

I'm not really a Honda guy. Once I get this bike greened up and ready to run, I really hope I never have to work on it again. My bro's talking about giving the 900 to our father since he just put a down payment on a '09 Triumph Daytona 675. So, I'm really doing the work for my dad. I just hope I can get all of the bugs work out of this bike.

that 900 will be a good bike,

back home in the late 60's early 70's we used to see alot of brigestone bike

my cousin had a 125? twin

he put in over long spark plugs and punched holes down into the tops of the pistons

then he pulled the head/s and filled the holes with body fill

didnt run long

he got drunk and put the same plugs back in

darwin obviously forgot about him

My Bridgestone hasn't ran in almost 40 years, but I love a challenge. My real pride and joy (and pain) is my GS. That bike has literally been to hell and back, both me and it having mostly survived a 60 mph t-bone with a car that cut us off on a freeway 5 years ago.

the gs suzuki's are a tough bike, the engines are tougher than the honda , yamaha's ,,same era

nothings tougher than a big bore kawsaki[seems strange for a honda administrator to say that, but i wont lie]

i have owned a few 200 big reds, both shaft and chain

i just got paid for my gr 650, it was the same colour scheme as that suzuki

That old GS is an animal, she's good for over 150 mph and that's from experience. The TL is an untamed beast, it's likely to rip your head off if you glance at it the wrong way. The Honda is way too sedate for my tastes.

Nice GS. They are easier than the Kawasakis because the Kwaks tend to be more of a parts puzzle from year to year.

The 900C is a heavy bike with a smaller motor. You can make a much faster bike out of it, but you're still hauling around a heavy bike. Comfy for a longer ride though.

How's your BUFF smell? I had a conversation with a navigator a couple decades ago, said his plane really stank, was cold and cramped. Laughing

Sure a great plane though. I was fascinated with them as a kid in the early 60s. I told my dad they were going to be one of the best planes ever, he said they'd never outclass the DC3. That was before over a thousand of them were built. We spoke the other day, he started telling me what a great plane the B-52 is... Laughing

Where in ND are you. I grew up in New England, which is 25 miles south of Dickinson. Your dad will enjoy the bike if you can get it running. Good luck getting her to purr!!!!
