He's doing fine. He moved into his travel trailer and has his own generator power, AC, gas to cook, etc.
95% of the entire area has no power at all. Evan (Hoss) and his family left their house to stay with friends that do have power. According to Tommy, both families came throught it fine with almost no property loss, just a lot of inconvenience.
Others nearby weren't so lucky. Tommy said that there are still over 500 people totally unaccounted for over by Galveston. Total loss of life and property in huge numbers. When will people learn?
I'm glad our friends made it OK. Tommy said they moved into his as yet unfinished new home with just a mattress to sleep on through the storm, since the interior of the new house is still not finished. He figured the little travel trailer (26" Prowler) was questionable stability wise, but it came through the brunt of the storm without a problem, and he's now living comfortably in it, compared to others in his neighborhood that have no power.
He also said that a cold front came through, and the temps dropped, so people are able to sleep with their windows open and at least get some much needed rest, comfortably.
God bless you guys. I was relieved to hear that you're going to be OK. I had tried to get through for the last three days on the phone, but the phones were out. |

Thanks Gene!
I hope all the Texans and others affected by this storm will check in soon. Their absence is giving the Canadians a chance to take over! |

I asked Tommy about the other guy that lives in the area, and he hasn't heard from him in a few months, so he had no idea. I'm not aware of any other members that are over there.
Dallas would be too far away to have any exceptional weather beyond the norm for Dallas. It always rains like hell there anyhow, nothing new. I lived there for 5 years and when the thunderstorms would hit, I couldn't see across the street, and the water would come off of my hip roof house in solid sheets like a water curtain on all 4 sides. Gurtters were useless for water control, you had to have a watershed that took away hundreds of gallons an hour to the dside so you could walk through.
I went to gert in my van during one of those storms. I opened the door, and closed the umbrella and quickly jumped up in the van, but in that 2 seconds my Nokia cell phone got so waterlogged that it fried. I was not happy. |

Glad everyone around Houston is relatively ok.
I spent the weekend at my new deer lease about 250 miles southwest of Dallas. We didn't even get a sprinkle there, but at my house north of Dallas, they got a couple of inches of rain and a little wind.
The cool front is here as well. It was 60 when I rode in this morning and only supposed to be 82 this afternoon. Makes for nice riding.
The people around Dallas were reacting to Ike the way they do when snow/ice shows up around here. Events were cancelled before the storm even came ashore. My buddy was nervous about going to the deer lease because of the impending "weather". I said if I'm going to have to watch it rain, might as well do it in the country. |
