New cb750 C owner

Greetings from the north - not north enough to be Canadian (although, we're practically cousins) but north enough to pick up a bike in July, and realize that you might have 6 inches of snow in 60 days.

Anyways, thought I would introduce myself, since, I know I will be asking some questions along the way. I'm not really a newbie, but I am not an expert by any means. I like to read, and I read a lot already on this forum, so I thought I'd just introduce myself so we're not asking a bunch of questions from the get go Smile

I like hearing about all the techniques, tips, tricks, product and experience you all have to offer. Yes, you ALL, not ya'll. I'm northern, not southern Smile

Anyways, I picked up a 1980 cb750c this past weekend, for $600. It has just a trickle over 12k miles and needs a bit of work. But, I'm in it for the long run. I'm not even looking to RIDE this year, but hopefully next year. I want to do a frame up resto-mation. (restoration / customization). Quality (to a certain degree) is what I'm going for as I want this bike to be my daily rider, and look amazing doing it - but I'm staying away from 'ultra-high performance'.

Anyways, I know a post is worthless without pictures, so away we go.

This is me taking it off the lift - yeah, lift. One, the tires on this baby are cracking hardcore on the front, not to mention it wasn't firing on 3+4. Even though it was only 2 miles away, I didn't want to die (don't have any of my gear anymore, sold it in the move) from just getting a project bike. I seen my share of spills, and haven't gotten one YET - but I knew this wasn't the time to experience it. Safety first, right? Right.

Here she is, before we tore into her. Again, I bought this bike as a project bike to work on with my dad. He's getting old, and I want to do more and more with him. Plus, at the rate my mother harks at him, it's good to get him away a bit and talk about stuff she doesn't know anything about, and he's comfortable with. Unlike computers, we both like bikes.

Well - this is partially how it looks - in just 24 hours, I've almost got the motor pulled. But not in any hurry, as seeing this won't hit the road until may of next year, I've got time to really learn about the bike, and really study (and save) for the right components to make her truly, one of a kind.

When everything is said and done - this is my springboard inspiration. I won't have the 4-4 setup, I'm going to have 4-2, but mostly, I would love to get results like this when I'm said and done. I know it sounds silly, but allotment for this bike isn't about money, it's about the time, the experience, and the customization of not owning a twin, or a squid bike.

Plans? Wel....
- Dual disc up front (if possible)
- 900 cams
- 863? kit (maybe?)
- new suspension
- all new wiring (yuck, but very important IMO)
- fun

Again, thanks for listening to the youngen in town - mark any critiques on my progress you want, I love gathering the input from experienced riders.

That blue bike is a CB750K, not a c.

The bottom black bike has an F tank on it.

Are you sure Gene? Didn't the K have the squarish (sp?) turn signals instead of the round ones on the C?

under the fork front axle = 1980 custom

silver engine = 1980 750 custom

chrome airbox covers = 1980 custom

chrome headlightears = custom

round bug eyed signal lights = custom

custom seat

right side cover gone = custom

its got a k tank on it. f tanks are squarer

ahhh yes, riding the twisty mountain roads of north dakota, sweeping through the N.D. state forest, and taking in the vistas of riding along the coast. it truly is a rider's paradise......... Laughing

yes, that is a K tank. Cs are much more teardrop shaped. the rest looks pretty complete. the conversion to double disk front and disk rear shouldnt be too much of a problem if you can find a 750 F parts bike locally. a whole bike with maybe a bad engine will supply you with pretty much everything you will need to convert the C to a better rider. of course, it may be easier to just pull your engine and put it in the F frame. F parts [tanks, side covers, harnesses, performance stuff] are much easier to find than for the 750C. Rolling Eyes

Hey thanks for the warm welcome gang.

yes, that is a K tank as the C tank was rusted out. But I took it anyways and it will form the cowl of my new rear section.

KFC - love it.

nesarin - thanks fellow north dakotan! Once this thing is complete we'll have to meet up and do a run to little yellowstone or something.

My friends think I'm nuts for restoring a bike that would cost more than financing a "newer" one - but I have always enjoyed inline fours on these old cruisers, plus - I'll never forget the day when my kz650 rolled out on it's own and I got two compliments right away. The best one was "now THATS a bike - good job man".
