Hello all - I have a 1979 cb750F motorcycle. In looking through the service manual, I see two possible locations for a bike mounted liquid-filled oil pressure gauge. One option, would be to replace the oil pressure switch(idiot light) which appears to be the leftmost location behind the cylinders. What I am wondering is, can the rightmost bolt (top of crankcase behind the cylinders) be used for this purpose? The right hole cants/leans slightly forward. With either hole would need a 90 degree connector of some sort to use with a fixed gauge. Has anyone done this? Adapter recommendations? |

If you haven't already, please read through the New Members Thread (linked in my signature).
You don't want to mess with the transfer tube that leads from the crankcases up to the head. The bolts that connect it are bored inside to carry the oil, and to provide the correct pressure drop for the head.
The better thing to do is to install the gauge where the pressure switch is. Or add a tee if you want to keep the idiot light. Be aware that the pipe thread on that switch (and thusly in the crankcases) is not NPT, it's BSP. |

Personally, I don't see the point of having the gauge down low where you can't see it. I'd rather mount it up by the gauges, or hang it off the handlebars. |

That gauge is visible with the look I take while also scoping every other thing I can hoping to not have any leaks |
