Yet another noobie

Hi all. Just came across this forum looking for sites that deal with the 900 Custom series. I should be getting one shortly as a daily driver. I have mainly dealt in the old SOHC CB750s but I was offered a 900C that I can't say no to.

A few shots of some of the girls.... I'm going to wait until I have the K1 up to the same rolling chassis level as the K2 and K3 (wearing the K4 tank right now) and do three or four engines at the same time.

6pk...who did your polishing and chrome work? Paint also? Friggin nice.

The polishing of the aluminum and chrome I did myself as I am a masochist. I was amazed how well chrome will come back from the dead. However if the surface of the chrome is penetrated - then its a lost cause.
A friend of mine does the paint. Those are colors I got from DonDirtBiker stateside. They match original. I had the Candy Gold scanned twice at local paint shops and the results were disasterous. It looked good in the shade, but in the sunlight it looked like mustard as processed by a baby.
Since paint is considered a hazardous material I had to find my own version of the underground railroad to get it here across the boder. However it is a dead on match to the original. The Flake Orange is also perfect. The black on the F3 is actually a metallic black Corvette color. I wanted some depth to it instead of the standard black.

If you want to polish yourself - learn to love your bench grinder and wet sandpaper.

Another deviation in color is going to be the K1 I'm working on. Its going to wear a medium blue Toyota color.

Those chrome engine covers on the 750 Four? How'd you get the carbs so clean? Shit man!

Sure - but you'll have to wait until the winter months. Summertime is full.
Carbs are a double bugger and my ultrasonic cleaner has gone to its maker in the sky. I need another.

one of the nice things about a bike with a short production run is that there are not a lot of option differences or style changes. in the few years that the custom was made, it got bigger, faster, and better handling, but in the 10 years that the SOHC 750 was produced, there were many different versions, with many changes. those in the know on these bikes have to have the patience of a saint to want to be able to tell all the subtle and profound differences between all the different options and upgrades. of course, on the bright side....you have a lot more options to go to for parts and pieces, as they made a gazillion of these bikes. must be nice...... Confused

Ahhh and therein lies th rub. To make a "nice" SOHC doesn't take much for the generic Frankenbike. To make a specific year model run is more time, effort and, of course dollars. The bike looked mostly the same from 1971 to 1978, but almost everything changed year to year. Gauges, switches, fenders, forks, pegs, signals, bars (both grab and handle), carbs, exhaust......
I try to keep them honest, but for the semi-gloss gauges and the later (1977-78 ) 17 inch rear wheel. Can't give up that look on the early K series.
And we dare dont' talk of the most sacred 1969 to early 1970 sandcasts. They'll eat you alive in parts and prices thereof.

The SOHC CB 750 FOUR changed the course of motorcycle history bar none and obviously gave rise to the DOHC's that we know and love. Soooo many have been chopped, bobbed, and parted out. It's nice to them when restored to their former beauty...Truly great bikes...

I have a buddy that has a whole garage full from bottom to top of 750 parts. They are in Happy Camp, CA though, almost to the Oregon border. They are for sale.
