Greetings everyone! I just found this forum about a week ago and have been reading intently.
I bought a 1980 CB750C from my wife's (then girlfriend) dad in 1996. It had been sitting in a field for about 10 years and had 8000 miles on it. I cleaned it up, did some basic PM, sync'd the carbs, tossed new tires on it, etc. and drove it for about 7000 miles. I then started flying all over for Y2K stuff (I'm an IT guy) and didn't have much time for any recreation so I stashed the bike in my parent's barn. 10 years later I'm ready to bring it back to life the right way. It has just over 15000 miles on the clock right now and is mainly in need of general TLC.
I've got a long list (some necessary, some not) of things to address, and the bike is torn down in my garage right now. Frankly, the main hold up right now is getting vendors to ship me parts. I'm thoroughly unimpressed with Old Bike Barn and Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse. Unfortunately, given the age of the bike, suppliers are not all that plentiful. I wish I could just find a site like Rock Auto for cycle parts (e.g., reasonably priced, good parts, customer service).
My background (other than computers) is in the V8 world. I've got a 94 Impala SS which is my fun car. Also, I'm passionate about doing everything myself, which is just an extension of my "hacker" tendencies. Whether it be a computer, car, motorcycle or toaster, I am compelled to understand how it works and how I can make it better. My DIY obsession has even lead my to build a machine shop in my basement to make parts I can no longer buy.
That's about it for me, but I also want to say thanks to the site owners and mods for putting together this forum. I believe the single biggest contribution of the Internet to my day-to-day life has been forums such as this. The information shared here and on boards of this type are truly a public service to the home mechanic! |

You might also try servicehonda.com for OEM parts. Good prices, minimum $9 for shipping. Usually about one week for delivery.
You will need the OEM part numbers from somewhere like mrcycles.com parts fish. |

Service Honda's Fiche drives me crazy, and it only works on IE...
I use Ride ow.com for looking up the numbers - ordering from them is slow, and best to call ahead to check availability.
Georgefix on eBay is probably one of best, and fastest, if he has what you need. |
