Just dropping in to say hello, I'm Greg from NC and I just picked up a '81 cb750 custom. I normally wouldn't have gotten into this bike but the price was a steal. I've had older Honda cafe racers and well you guessed it, I'm keeping to my roots and keeping this sucker along those lines.
I know mostly about SOHC's so off the back I have a few questions:
The bike isn't running right now as I took it apart to incorporate some parts I have(cafe bars, seat and fairings...) I noticed some people talk about auto petcocks, now I know I dont have one, is this a problem? I searched and couldnt find results. Also, I need a petcock, assuming 20mm? I havent really found any for sale other Pingels and such.

Welcome Greg!
The auto petcock is a vacuum operated fuel valve that only let's fuel flow to the carbs when the engine is cranking or running.
Kind of a safety feature if you do not turn off your manual petcock and your float needles screw up.
We typically take the Spawn of Satan off the bike, place in driveway, and smash with a 3 lb. hammer! 8) |

Thanks for the welcome guys!
The carbs have pod filters and are free of any Satanic parts. Thats why I asked what the deal is because I don't have the part. I have all the hoses for it but I imagine someone used a BFH to settle the score. |

Pods are bad assuming you have the stock CV Carbs on it. Maybe you don't? |

Interesting because the bike ran and idled. I just got a different tank with no petcock.
Why wouldnt the bike run 'right' with pods? If its because the carbs need to pull a vacuum I can fix that. |

That's the biggest reason. If you have a solution for the carbs to pull the same vacuum with pods, please tell. I hate fighting airbox's. |

Update:
I need to find an autofuel and airbox if anyone has one. I'd like to see the difference between my older SOHC carbs compared to the CV carbs. |
