You link to your pics by using img tags like this:

Code:

[img]ImageWebAddress[/img]

Photobucket is nice because they give you image links pre-made. Just copy and paste into your post.

Okay, yeah, it gets a bit loose here in the Welcome and Forum Announcements section, as we try to keep a friendly atmosphere, just the guys (and too rarely gals) hanging out and BSing.

BTW, This is Glenn Dalton's site too, like the F site, but he doesn't come here much, we take care of most of it, unless something requires his authorization or credentials with the forum server hosting site.

As of yet, we don't have our own picture server here, and that's how the F site was too, before the upgrade a year or two ago. So, you'll need a picture hosting service, which can be free or "ad based", like Photobucket. You upload your pictures to their site, so they can then be served wherever you like, by linking the codes that the picture hosting sites usually provide, by clicking on a function box or button on their interface. That will Copy some code to your computer's "clipboard" so you can then Paste it into the "Post a reply" box when you're making a post here. The hosting sites will have decent instructions, and we're here too.

The code for a picture that is linked from a hosting site will look something like :

[img]url_and_filename.JPG[/img]

or maybe

Code:
[img]http://www.pathandpicturename.com/brent/mypic205.jpg[/img]

Most picture's filenames you post will end in a suffix of .jpg or .gif, or some other picture type. The forum software must have that kind of syntax, and not something like a question mark or some other words, it needs to be the name of the picture. In fact, the forum software will not accept question marks in an image tagged picture, it won't be able to parse it.

The codes in and including the brackets are called tags, and the "url_and_filename" are the path and picture file like you would see it in the address bar in your browser if you were displaying only a picture in your browser. As previously mentioned, the hosting site will provide that code for you, or when you get more comfortable you'll see how it's arranged and will be able to arrange your own. The commands can also be nested, so that if you click on a picture, it will call up another picture, which could be a different, perhaps larger rendering of the original "thumbnail" or it could even call up a whole different website with the right nested tags.

You could also post pictures that you have already posted at the F site by looking up the addresses of them, and apply the codes. For instance, if I put the tags around this picture:

http://www.cb1100f.net/modules/Forums/files/foto_806.jpg

it will display here on the page thus:

Image

Of course we don't like pictures that are larger than that one, which is the perfect size at 640x480 pixels. If you need to post larger pictures, you can just make them links without the tags, then they will be clickable but won't display directly on the thread page, or you can re-size them smaller if they are hosted on a picture hosting site, like Photobucket.com.

Hope that helps.

The Photobucket site has undergone a complete re-writing, so everything looks and works a little differently, but overall, it can now do about what it used to, although all the screens and methods are different. Just sayin.

Photobucket is a lot better now than it was last year or when ever the problem was. It is different than it used to be but usable.
