Hello from Tennessee!

Hi All!
I've been lurking here for a while, and I finally decided to jump in and sign up. I live in Santa Fe, Tennessee, a little place about an hour southwest of Nashville.
I've owned several bikes: 1970 Honda CL100, 1974 Honda CB400F, 1978 Honda CX500, 1981 Honda CB750F, 1982 Suzuki GS1100EZ, and I got back into riding about a year ago after a 15 year hiatus. I currently own a 1979 Honda GL1000 (naked!!) and a 1979 CB750L. My wife (Jennifer) owns a 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan 500, she's the one who got me back into riding when she decided to learn to ride about a year ago. We are both pilots who fly strictly for fun, Jennifer learned to fly in the Cessna 152, and I learned in the Cessna 172.. She drives (and sometimes lets me drive) a 1996 Corvette Coupe, hence the name VettePilot.
This seems to be the friendliest and most informative forum out there for the 750, so thanks for having me!!!

Welcome to DOHC Customs.
I would only fly if they let me be the pilot, no human being takes my life in their hands, ever.
I flew a Cessna when I was 15 and thought it was a blast but have not had an opportunity since and that was just over 30 years ago.

My grandpa let me bounce on the yoke of a Cessna Tri-Pacer when I was still in diapers! Embarassed

He said that was quite a roller coaster ride! Shocked

I escaped from Memphis about 6 years ago and ended up in the desert, I do not think you will find a better fourm anywhere, pull up a chair and sit awhile Very Happy

I'll bet it was!
My earliest memories are riding in the backseat of my grandfather's Cessna 170B back in the 60's. He later bought a Mooney in the mid-60s and promptly crashed it when trying to take off from a gravel road. He wasn't hurt, immediately bought a Cessna 182 and flew it for years. He was an anomoly, he was one of the few "old, bold" pilots. He didn't have an instrument rating, but I sure remember the thunderstorm we flew through in the 182, hail bouncing off the airplane....
I was always wanting to fly with him when I was a kid, but it never seemed to "work out", now I have a greater understanding of why my parents were anxious to keep me out of his airplane. The family always said "he's gonna kill himself in that airplane". He lost his medical at age 93, but continued to fly up until age 96, when he slipped on some ice while leaving church, hit his head and died. I think that he had something over 5000 hours when he died. He passed the flying gene on to me, but not the risk taking one, thank goodness.

Oh, we also escaped from Memphis in 2005, just went the other way!

Grandpa gave up everything back in the early 70s when the cost of everything started escalating. Plus he used the plane for business and did not do that anymore.

He loved to tell the story of getting caught between two thunderheads out of Colorado Springs. Suddenly, the altimeter was spinning around going up so he pointed the nose down and firewalled the throttle and was still climbing, the next thing he knew the altimeter reversed and he had to pull up and was still falling.

When he landed at the Springs airport, the attendents took one look at him and asked if he was alright. He asked them where the bathroom was and told them he had to clean out his pants! Shocked

nope, fuck that... if i go down at 140 on a hardtail thats my own stupid ass fault... if wifey/friend/bus driver/pilot isnt paying attention and pulls out in front of a dump truck, i got no say in that. im dead and dont even know why.

I fly in commercial aircraft all over the country for 5 months a year. They pay me to do it, so what the hell. It is why I can go for months without working the rest of the year. 8)

I am now the pilot of a Blackbird which will fly at warp speed no problem.
A friend over on CBX World, Mark goes by the handle sr71cbx.
