Welcome!!
The seats are bolted on on these things. Look rearward from the top shock bolt and you will see a bolt under the lip of the seat on each side. Those are them. |

There are two bolts, one on each side of the seat. |

I think that was my first question on these bikes, too. My '81 is the newest bike I've ever owned and I was used to the easy flip-up hinged seats. Still kinda pisses me off that these aren't like that.... |

No, I'm pretty reserved when riding, but my truck is a different story...

Yup, pods and there is nothing more lame than pod filters, especially cheap Emgo pod filters on stock CV carbs.
Dude, you need to get right and put the air box back on or be ragged about it during your stay here.
You will not be given a break, you will only be made fun of. |

I don't have money to be droppin on anything so, for now the bike runs which is good enough for me. And I have a timing chain issue that needs to be fixed first. So I'm thinkin as long as they are filterin air, they can be there for now.

You keep thinking wrong and you are gonna burn a valve.
Put an air box on the bike or be ragged on. |

I'm thinkin with 45k or 47k on the odo, dependin when the previous owner(s) put them on it prolly already is. For real I'm flat broke after buying this and tryin to get it legal, still not done that. I understand not wanting to lean out the bike that bad but its gotta wait. I'm pretty tough skinned, rag away. Thanks for the advice though, I will work on getting an airbox back on before summer though.
-TJ
Edit: On another note I was thinkin bout getting another motor and rebuilding it from the ground up with help from the forum. And during this time just focus on learnin the bike. |

I understand not having the money and will do my best not to rag you too much but an air box can be had for cheap money and I might have one soon I can just give you.
I will do all I can to help you get your bike right with nature but, I am gonna make fun of your bike until it has an air box because that is what I do. I am an asshole after all. |

I too am an asshole. And I have found through experience that people who are assholes, and like to admit it, usually tend to get along just fine. It's the ones who think their shit don't stink that are the problems.
How much do you think it would run me to rebuild one of these assuming a friend or two and I are doing the labor? I'm real, idk, "not sure" about this motor with the mileage it already has on it.

Rebuilding an engine to stock specs can be done for a couple three hundred bucks if you are doing the work yourself.
But think thousands if you are going to build something like I built for my own bike.
New cam chains & guides, new primary chain and tensioners all the way around will run you that couple three hundred bucks and the gasket sets are another $200.00 +.
APE valve seals are cheap only costing $35.00 for 16 that you need.
You will most likely find at least one pair of rod bearings needing replacement too and they are about $20.00 a piece, not a pair.
Doing it the right way is the only way I do it, all out replacement of changable parts.
A new oil pump is always a good idea.
Money is tight and times are hard but a good running bike rebuilt by yourself is the most rewarding thing to feel. |
