LOL ...
Tractor's at camp . I ran into a Blue Racer in back of the cabin ... He took off . I thought I'd seen the last of him and went back up to the truck . I rounded the front corner of the cabin and dang near stepped on him . Those critters are real quick .
But I was kinda quick , too ... LOL |

I don't think I've ever seen a blue racer larger than two feet long. Granted I usually only see a flash of them as they slither off |

OK , MAYBE he was only five and a half foot ...
I recall seeing a lot of the little guys when I was a kid and once saw one bigger than the one I saw at camp yesterday .
I'd have taken a picture for you , but I had my hands full of steel both times I saw him . Sorry .

We had a few of them "no leggers" at the deer lease I had. Both of these are in the 4-5 foot range. One is a bull snake the other is a rattler. I came across the bull snake under a night stand in my bedroom . The rattler was living under the house.
This rattler suprised my son and I at a friends place. I took him out with my deer rifle at 10 feet. Damn it was hard to see him through the scope at that distance.

I never much feared snakes. I lived in the middle of snake central growing up. My dad had a 6ft. long boa constrictor, there were 5-10ft. long bull snakes out there and blue racers, gardener snakes, and we lived in a small valley between two buttes where there were two rattlesnake dens on either one. If you went up there in middle October you could look under a rock and find hundreds of rattlesnakes coiled together. Used to chop their heads off with a garden hoe if we found them around the farmyard. Dad used to collect their tails. |
