Hello, All!

I used to ride a lot, (1984 Kawasaki LTD750) but haven't been on a bike for many years. That is until a co-worker offered to sell me his 1980 CB750 Custom for a price I just couldn't pass up. ($700!) I've had bugs in my teeth for the last week. Very Happy Besides a coating of dust, some rusty chrome, and a missing baffle on one of the mufflers she's in great shape, just a little loud. Got her basically cleaned up and running, but seems to be a little rough, especially when idling. I'm assuming this is because of the missing baffle? Exhaust is a 4 into 2 aftermarket, and the other side has a bolt and nut holding the baffle in place. I removed the nut/bolt and tried to remove the baffle to see what I needed on the other side, but it didn't want to budge and I didn't want to force it. Can I replace this baffle, or do I need to replace the muffler or the whole exhaust? I am working under MAJOR budget constraints!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, and I am excited to be a part of this forum!

I doubt that the exhaust is the reason for the rough running. That baffle may be so rusted in place that you would destroy it getting it out and I'm not sure you could find one for the other. You may have to resort to some southern engineering and adapt some stock baffles to your pipes. If you have a budget then replacement pipes are out

Welcome to here wave

Maybe you can find some used slip-ons for your headers. Sometimes Harley shops will get take-offs from bikes they sell that want new ones. If they're used and kind of not totally fresh, they might let them go real cheap.

Your idle could be numerous different issues from dirty carbs to bad ignition spark wires, caps, or plugs. It could also be that it needs the carbs synced. Make sure all the other issues are good then do a carb sync last, and it should idle well, and take off from a stop more easily too.
