Hello everyone. I'm Larry and I'm a restor-aholic. It started with bicycles. I'd fish them out of people's trash piles and clean them up and repaint them. I then progressed to lawn mowers and other small engines, then finally (so far) to motorcycles. My first was a 1981 Honda CB650 that sat in a shed for 21 years. I was able to do it in less time than it would have taken someone with skills to construct one from raw elements. This is what it looks like now. I tried to post a before picture, but the forum did not seem to want to cooperate.

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/396414_3653438103167_168145856_n.jpg

Next I did a 1973 Suzuki TS100. I built it out of two bikes. Here is a video I made of the progress: http://youtu.be/7Hdr_vzDeso

My latest acquisition is a 1980 Honda CB900C. I have not yet picked it up, but I'm certain this forum will be a great help in getting it up and running.

Thanks! I like the way this forum has sticky threads with many of the common issues addressed.

I'm not sure what this means, but thanks! By the way, the CB900 that I just bought is currently in your area. I hope to pick it up from my in-law's house in Springhill, Fl next week.

jeff may need a room, pick him up and take him with you

if you read our stickies and sidenotes in our signatures, plus read the NMT. use the search

search ohms for voltage/charging issues

shims for valve clearance threads, it gets easier as you progress

Thanks! Glad to be here!

I picked up the CB900 this weekend and really only had a chance to give it the once-over. The rotor/stator is in horrible condition, the rear brake caliper is locked up, the back tire is flat, and the main fuse has been replaced with what looks like a standard-issue paper clip. That's all I've had a chance to check so far. The gas tank is a little rusted, but it does not look as bad as some I've seen.

As you are probably aware, or should be, using a metal bypass instead of a main fuse is a good way to burn down your bike. All the alternator and ignition system is only protected with the main fuse, they are not on the other sub fuses. If something was to short out in either of those, the wiring to it would instantly get white hot and the insulation and anything else that got in the way (including gas line) would melt and probably catch fire.

my 200es had a screwdriver shaft for a main fuse

probably around 60000 amp would blow it
