New Motivator!!!

Hello everyone I'm Chris,
A bit about me...
Motorcycles:
1980 CB900C (owned for 1 year)
1974 Harley XLCH Sportster
1995 Harley FLT

Occupation background:
Full time student/ Aviation mechanic
US. Marine 2004-2009 MOS 6092 Aircraft structural mechanic.
4 deployments. Al Assad Iraq X2, Kandahar Afgh and 7 months on the USS Tarawa

Now that that's out of the way I would like to say I have enjoyed reading the plethora of knowledge that this forum presents so far. I will most definitely gain a mechanical advantage on my motorcycle issues.

I bought my CB900 from a man who was moving and the bike was in dire need of a bullet much less a restoration but for some reason I decided to restore it. For the $100 I paid for it I was off to a good start anyway. I bought the bike because I needed a project to occupy my free time in between school as I had just returned from active duty. I was intrigued by the 10 speed trans and the fact that the bike was only in production for 3 years further sparked my interest so I got to work.

What I did to make it road worthy:
-New front shock seals
-Carbs rebuilt + sync
-full engine soak with seafoam
-New wires/resister caps and plugs
-Front + rear brakes rebuild W new front master cylinder
-Flushed all fluids
-New rear tire
-New Stator and Voltage Regulator
-Paint and polishing
-New battery and turn signal relay
-Learned the hard way about them stupid pods!!!

After all this and some tuning the bike ran purrfect!
A year and ten thousand miles later I have to say the bike still runs well and is my pride and joy. With the invocation of some recent issues I have the bike back on the rack for some attention. with the newly gained arsenal of information I'm acquiring, I hope to have her back on the road soon.

The problems to be addressed:
- #2 cyl popping (the cut-off diagram is destroyed!!) considering blanking the vacuum ports???
- Valve shim measurement and addressing as necessary
-Cam chain tension adjustments
-New o-rings and float needles (The fuel T pipe o-ring ruptured a week before Biketober fest!!!)
-Determine why at 5000RPMs @75mph the bike hesitates
-New front tire

**I need a #1 carburetor or the throttle linkage for that carb if anyone has one laying around. I cracked the rod removing a stripped screw and i cant seem to find one anywhere!!!**

I have a #1 carb body I can send you for $27 including shipping by Priority mail. It's from an extra bank I have and I've never used. I bought the set on Ebay and ended up not needing it. It's a body only.

I suppose I'd just remove the screws from the connector plate and send the body with whatever linkage stays with #1 to get what you need. If that's not accurate just give me more direction.

Thanks for the carb Gary good looking out! I have the rest of the carbs and aluminum casings soaking in the infamous "pine-sol" bath. I cant wait to see the end result!!

Your carb is in the capable hands of the Post Office... with reeeally good luck you could get it Wednesday, but I suppose Thursday is more realistic. Any later than that and Priority failed again.

Here's hoping that you get the carbs back on and have absolutely no issues... unlike me who took 6 times to get mine clean!!

This is hilarious because the first thing I ever bought for my 900 was a set of pipes with the mufflers from eBay. The USPS "lost" the box in transit and had zero accountability for it from the time it left the post office.

How do you loose a 50lb box!!!!!!!! Ias long as they have been doing business i'd like to think they would be better equipped at handeling those types of situations but i was offered a personal guarentee that i would never see my package!

That person didn't happen to own a nice set of CB900C exhaust did they ?

If the carb doesn't show up it'll be a first for me... I've had no issues with USPS Priority... Parcel Post on the other hand is often so slow I've wondered if the package would make it.

I'm hoping the route to Florida isn't in the path of Sandy, though.

USPS tracking shows your carb delivered. I'll be interested to know how well your bike is running... tomorrow.

Thanks again terry I recieved the carb last night!
I had the seat re-covered today.
Tonight I'm going to start working on it but I'm still waiting on valve cover gasket, a valve bucket depresser and the carb oring rebuild kit,. They should all be in tomorrow.
I'm going to set up a photo bucket and upload all of the pics tonight.
