Hello all.
New guy from the good ol' commonwealth of Kentucky, here.
Names Jarrod and I hope to learn and help inform as I learn more!
Just got my first bike, a 1980 CB900 Custom. Sadly, it looks good but has a bad engine. |

bad engines can be fixed. I got a second complete engine for $200. Rinse, lather repeat - bike runs great. |

Hello from Illinois...
If you decide you're rather replace your engine than fix it, I can fix you up with a good running one currently in my 1980. Or I have an '81 parts bike with a running engine, but I've never ridden that one. You could have your choice of engines for $300.
I have a friend who visits Ky occasionally, so could likely get the engine just south of Cincinnati and cut the drive in half. |

I don't think fixing this engine is in the cards.
It broke a connecting rod, which the bottom half of went through the bottom crank case.
My first question was going to be if it was plausible to get a new lower crank case, rod and such and repair it.
If not, I may just be hitting you up for an engine haha. And I have some family in Florence, which is right outside of Cincinatti, so that may be a very plausible situation. |

That could work. I seriously doubt that you could come close to fixing what you have for $300, so even if you don't take mine I suggest that you at least look for another one. |

I had a guy price me one for $600. He seemed offended when I said that was too high. It might be a few weeks or so before I could make a purchase, but I'm definitely interested.
And thanks for the welcome boss! |

They sell case's and rods on Ebay, if you decide to go that way. |

Yeah, I checked into that, but I didn't know if a rod flying around in there with enough force to bust a baseball sized hole in the case would leave me with a buildable engine.
I'd imagine it would destroy the crank, and everything else. |

I definitely will pick one up, just the matter of getting the funds available. I wasn't expecting to even have a bike yet, this one basically fell in my lap haha.
