Hello and thanks for your work here at the forum.

I recently bought a clean 1983 CB1000 which will be given to my wife's father as a gift this spring. There's actually nothing wrong with it but a leaky petcock but it's nice to know there's a wealth of knowledge if I need it.

Yeah, I did a search for the petcock before I posted. About every other reply in the threads I looked at was "read the faq, put your signature." I didn't want to get yelled at right off the line.

I haven't quite found what I was looking for yet but I'll keep searching. I'm sure what I want to know is on here somewhere. I just have to come up with the right search to find it........

The petcocks for the 82 900c and the 83 1000C are the same, but the other years are different. These have the large threads and the sediment bowl. They are still available from Honda dealers. You can use the Service Honda link in my sig or some other online dealers will also have comparable pricing. Watch out though, some will be higher.

It's a great bike, good choice. I had to replace my petcock, also eliminated the automatic fuel valve, and installed an inline filter. As Gene said a petcock is available from a Honda dealer as shown below.
