Hi Guys,
I'm in the process of relocating to Seattle (I'm here now and the family follows soon). I got bored, got online, and found a solid '79 CB750K that I just picked up for $100 Grabbed a set of ignitors (needed them, they were gone) and she started kicking over. I'm going to get her running to verify that I've got a good project bike and then I'll start cleaning her up. She really is in decent shape, needs the typical things like side plastics, a new seat, etc. Tank is actually in good shape, no (obvious) dents or repairs. I'm psyched about this - I learned to ride on an early 70's 200 way back when and going old school will be great.
I see some of you are in the Seattle area - you have any suggestions on local parts sourcing? Do you guys hang/meet?
Look forward to sharing my experiences...

Welcome to here, Henry!
There's lots of nice riding around here - plenty-o'-twisties and mountains to ride through.
As for parts, if you're comfortable with e-Bay, that's the best place. If you need parts in a pinch, Bent-Bike has a couple of outlets in the area (used parts). Plenty of us to help out if you need any expertise, tools or a spare set of hands/eyes.
Cheers, mate! |

Thanks all - you really know how to make a guy feel welcomed!!! Can't wait to tear into my new baby. looking forward to getting her on the street. Sean, I may reach out to you sooner rather than later, I am planning on doing a carb cleanout in the near future and would appreciate any advice, seeing as how you're the man in that realm.
Cheers,

I do have a dream one day of building a badass raked chopper of my own design... But that would be for show... And for the fun of buidling something from the ground up...
The reason I'm so freakin excited about the 750 is that it was MADE to last - Honda knew (still knows) what they were doing. It only has 30k miles on it, I know I could take her over 100k easily with love. I want to RIDE, not WORK when I'm done with the restore. Yeah the carbs can be fucked up and a PITA but hey, that's part of the charm and once they are dialed in they are low maintenance |

Thanks Frank, I've been thru your post thoroughly (was lurking here all week until today). I'm looking forward to using it and the Pine-Sol method to clean out the carbs.
For what it's worth, I replaced the plugs today, installed the ignitors, and got her running! Had to use my forearm as a poor man's choke (long explanation...) but after a few mins to get her primed she fired right up. DAMN this bike has a nice throaty sound. I still can't believe I got her for $100.
So in today's work I've found that I have the "starter marbles" problem - I plan on yanking the crankcase cover off tomorrow (don't have an oil pan handy to drian into) and seeing how bad the damage is...
Sean, how up are you to showing a CB n00b how to clean out the carbs the right way (and how much?) I have LOTS of time since the family are still east coasters
THANK YOU cb750c.com FORUMS!!! I COULDN'T HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT YOU!!! |

WTF I must have the four lemons that Honda produced since their inception over 60 years ago Either that, or it's those crappy rebuild jobs I've been doing ... 'cause I'm still constantly wrenching and swearing at these bastards.
Oh well, it's a good thing I'm a masochist |
