Hi all, just a quick note to say thanks for all the great information here!

I just picked up a CB1000C for $1100, but it's got 59,xxx miles and needs a little help with some issues that appear to be pretty common around here (front brakes sticking, starter spins sometimes without catching), plus I'm looking forward to checking out everyone's pics and ideas as I start customizing a few things (first I will be adding a cig lighter plug for GPS and a windscreen).

Thanks in advance for all the great knowledge you've accumulated here - looking forward to getting my "new" bike back on the road! - Mark

Check the for sale section, Mark. There's a guy giving away the chrome caps for the ends of the grips.

Thanks all for the warm welcome! My bike isn't quite as clean as it looks...
you just can't see all the little dings from that picture and the cargo net
hides the black tape on the seat. But I'm happy that it's all original
except the backrest, battery tender, and that handy black cupholder mounted on the handlebars. I might take off the backrest part but keep the rack.

I decided to add the GPS because I never really plan a route - I just
impulsively choose roads that look fun, but it's pretty easy around here to
end up in the middle of nowhere 20 miles from a gas station, so the GPS lets me just ride aimlessly.

And thanks for the tip on the grip caps - I just sent him a PM! Now it's time to do some research on my draggin front brakes.

That backrest comes in handy when you need to strap anything down . I hang a back pack on mine .

Or when you don't want the passenger to fall off

That backrest and luggage rack are definitely non-OEM, but on the plus side, they allowed you to keep your grab bar. Most OEM units require removal of the grabrail and relocation of the turn signals.

If the brakes are dragging it's one or more of several possibilities:
1. the fluid return port inside the master cylinder is clogged
2. the rubber seals around the caliper pistons are melted
3. the fluid around the caliper pistons seals has crystalized and corroded the aluminum puck, forcing the seals up against the piston
4. the piston is corroded and won't move smoothly over the seals back into the released position.

Order the caliper piston seals for both calipers. Take 'em apart, clean 'em good, put in new seals. Then sop out all the old fluid from the master cylinder reservoir, put in new fluid, bleed the brakes until nice clean, clear, bubble free fluid comes out. Do the left caliper first, right one second.

Free tip: avoid porcelain brake pads, they are harder than the steel rotors and eat them up. Metallic pads will work but are likely to squeal. EBC organics are about the best you can get.

Thanks, I'll pop the top on the MC tonight and poke around there first! Unless I get motivated to do my taxes... then tomorrow will be MC day.

No worries about the backrest Frank, the only passenger I'll be carrying is if I happen upon a beautiful damsel in distress, and in that case I'll just tell her to hold on tight!

Hi, I originally started this thread using the account marklanderson, but now it seems that my comments are listed under the name priest1981 from Arizona. No idea who that is.. Was my account hacked or is this some sort of software error maybe?

They had to do a re-boot, some that signed in during a small window of time got mixed.

It looks like a few posts between early Tues morning and last evening will have user info confused. It's either live with this or throw away everything since last Tuesday.

Can you add a variable to the php that checks to see if the post falls into a certain date range to change the username to unknown or to flag it somehow. Although it might slow the forum down if it had to check this everytime... probably better to live with it if there aren't that many posts. Or maybe you could set it up to edit the top of all posts in that date range to note the username may be different..
