Hey guys im the new owner of 1982 cb750c, it has 26k (i think original miles)
it looks pretty clean, it still has all the stickers from the factory.
I dont want to stray much from the original look, it has luggage and fairing, maybe a new european handle bar, a solo seat, the king and queen is to high for me i am tipping toeing on lights so its got to go.
i remove the carbs and maybe over the weekend clean them, i have to remove the engine, cause i want to check valves. It has an oil leak as you can see i read on the forums that it might be the o ring from the cam tension screw, an its leaking all the way to the bottom.
Also the revs wont go down the stay up at 4000, maybe a stuck float, i dont know im going to need a lot oh help on this one. Also the drain tubes on the bottom of the carbs where do they end up, mine didnt have them on so please advise...
Fyi ; first road bike i just to run dirt bikes way back when, trikes and quads . I know my way around a mufflers ball bearing, jeje

Welcome thieaux ... and nice bike, BTW.
Just a few points. For now, don't worry about the revs staying high ... just go ahead and clean and rebuild your carbs as planned and go from there. Lots of tech advice hear on proper carb rebuilding. Check out the links in genesounds signature line is a great place to start.
Also, your question about proper routing for the carb drain lines ... go to the tech documents section of this forum and download the full service manual for your bike. There are cable and line routing diagrams contained in these manuals, for example ... plus all sorts of stuff to help with all your maintenance/repair work.
Your carb drain lines simply are routed towards the right rear of the transmission and ultimately terminate just behind the centre kickstand. There is actually a bracket just behind the clutch case where the drain lines are routed through. Check the manual and good luck with the bike overall. |

You can remove the valve cover to check the valves without removing the engine.
There is an o-ring around the front cam chain tensioner bolt. Very careful when re-torquing the bolt and lock nut. SNUG only or you will strip the aluminum threads. |

Do you mean you want to lap the valves, or check the valve adjustment?
If you only want to check the adjustment you only have to pull the valve cover. No need to pull the engine unless your compression check is real low or your valve seals are leaky. |

sorry for the picture size, i just want to check valve clearance, but i want to take engine out cause there is a lot of oil on the bottom and around the oil pan, im going to order a oil pan gasket just to be sure, i havent figured out the oil leak, maybe is from the cam tension screw or valve cover , im leaning towards screw cause thats were most of the concentration is
does any one knows the size of the o ring, also looking for some new levers, something other than oem ,, thanks  |

thieaux ... still not sure why you would want to pull the engine ... just yet at least. The oil pan gasket can be installed with the engine in place, for example. Also, if you can simply do all the preliminary stuff as you mentioned, ie: cleaning carbs, adjusting valves, etc, etc. ... then, if I were you, I'd simply give the engine a good cleaning (careful pressure washing) and then run the engine and look for your oil leak sources. You might have to take it for a ride, in order to force the leakage ... but keep the speed down so that wind doesn't move the oil leakage around. In other words ... do some investigating ... before you start pulling the engine out. Anyways .... that's my two cents worth. Again, good luck with it. |

Thanks tourmaster for the advise, i was just going to take out, but your suggestions sounds a lot better.
