Hello,
This is my first time on the forum. I'm sure it won't be my last. I bought a 1980 CB750C that needs restoring. I just finished doing a cleaning and rebuild on the carbs. Manual says that float level is critical and that it should be 15.5mm. Two carbs are right on, but two are at about 14mm. It says to adjust the float level by adjusting the "tang" on the float arm. Does anyone know what that means?? I can't see anything to adjust at all or bend at all. Can anyone help me?

I didn't think that the 80 had adjustable floats? |

I don't have a factory service manual. The manual I have is a Clymer Service Manual (sorta like a Chilton Manual). Can you still get the factory manual?

Frank, I've never looked at floats on an 80. I'm just going by the FSM.
Smitty, there are several things you need to look at on this site. One of those things is the Technical Documents section. There are service manuals and owners manuals available for download there. |

I'm just going by my floats, I know that they were original. Seems odd that two would be different? |

I can see in the picture on page 4-8 that the float they show in the manual is different from the one in my bike. The one in the picture, the actual float "arm" is metal. It would bend. The ones in my bike are all of a hard plastic material that won't bend at all. I might just have to see if I can buy new floats like the ones shown in the manual. Thanks for the help.

excerpt from the first link in my sig that I suggested you read:
| genesound wrote: | When using the Honda Shop Manuals, you need to look in the addenda for all the stuff pertinent to your year and model. The Honda 750 book was written for the 1979 K then there are add-ons for the various other 750s and years. Also you might need to look at all of them. If something was updated in the 1981 version, they didn't necessarily include it in the 1982 addendum, you have to get it from the 1981 section. They are incremental, not all inclusive.
In fact, I suggest you sit down and read the whole book. There is stuff in there that you won't find unless you do. |
Here is the relevant info from the book.
Please look at the links in my sig. It will save us all a lot of time. |

And Thanks for all the information about the manuals and stuff. I wish I had found this site earlier. I could have saved $20 buck I paid for this Clymer Manual. I'm sure I'm going to be a regular here. I'm just getting started. I have lots of questions.

You are right. I need to read the whole book before I do anything else. That answers that question. The float in the 1980 addendum looks like mine. And it says if they are out of spec to replace them. Thanks again

It is soooo much easier to have a bike that was only made one year and in one flavor. I don't have to worry about whether or not mine is the same as a K, or F, or L.
Of course, parts availability suffers a bit, but that's another story for another time... |
