Personally, I don't see the point of having the gauge down low where you can't see it. I'd rather mount it up by the gauges, or hang it off the handlebars.

Which 750 do you have? There were 3 models sold in '79 in the states: K, LTD, and F. You can check the nameplate on the neck if you don't know.
