There is a steam powered cycle at the Smithsonian built in about 1867 to 1869, by one Sylvester Howard Roper of Roxbury, Massachusetts. However, credit for the first commercially successful motorcycle usually goes to Gottlieb Daimler of Germany or Edward Butler of Great Britain.
