Hi everyone and thanks for a great site with a lot of great info !! I have been driving a Honda F4 for the last 10 yrs and have wanted a classic CB750 for a while. Well tomorrow I am going to take a look at (and hopefully purchase) a 1980 CB750 Custom with 18K miles. It is in mint condition with new tires, battery, chain/sprocket and tune up....ready to ride. All original except the exhaust (4-2 header system w/baffles...black). If anybody has any tips or pointers or maybe info on what kind of price range is typical I would greatly appreciate it and would be a great help. Thanks. |

welcome to the site!
Price is always dependent upon supply and demand. If the bike is rare, expect to pay a fortune.
that model is not rare, but it is rare to get one that's in tip top shape. So if you've tested it and it sounds good, looks good, runs good, then you probably don't have much negotiating room. I would guess that the owner is asking anywhere from $1500 to $1800 if it's in that good of condition.
for me, $1000 to $1200 would be a good deal. anything less than $1000 would be a steal.
now, if you find out that the bike needs work, I would offer $800 - $1000 |

If you find that it's low miles and nice condition, the price seems to vary from area to area, but anywhere between $800 - $1500 is a range to work with. More than that and it really needs to be mint.
Aside from the condition, the charging system is a major expense to check, to see if it's already been replaced, if it's working properly, etc. A lot of the bikes with low miles were parked years ago for a reason. That'll take the price down if it looks otherwise clean and unhacked. |

Thanks CBnewbie andresn38 for the info. Form what I was reading I was expecting around $1500 for the condition it is in.
This is the link to the craigslist site, price might be a concern but if you add the new parts e.g. tires, battery, tuneup, chain and sprocket it comes to this asking price ?

To me that looks like a price you'd see from a dealer; way too high.
I'd probably pay $1200 max. |

The seller has been a member of this site and always seemed like a good guy. He's had quite a few good looking bikes for sale over the years so I think he fixes them up in his spare time. |

Seemed like a good guy extremely knowledeble. We talked yesterday and this morning and was about 3/4 out on a 2HR drive to pull the trigger (cash in hand) when he called I admit I was at first a little hesitant due to comments on the forum but decided it was good deal due to the work done and condition....SOLD !!! Well guess I am out a day of work (took off) and $30 in gas wouldn't be the first time this happened to me; just dissapointed to say the least. |

On the bright side, there's always another deal out there, especially if you're not attached to any particular model CB750. If I go into searchtempest and select "ANY" for the terms, CB750 CB750C CB750F CB750K CB750SC, I could just about drown in DOHC's. |

I'll have to keep an eye out, thanks. Hopefully I find a nice 79-83 CB750C soon ! |
