Good evening-
New member here. Just took possession of a '79 CB750K (Limited Edition). My father had one of these bikes back in '79 when I was 11 years old and I have been wanting to get one ever since.
Finally found one for sale this past fall in Aspen, CO and it arrived last week. It seems to be in pretty good condition, and just turned it over for the first time tonight.
Looking forward to bringing this bike back to as close to showroom stock as I can over the next year or so.
Cheers,
John |

Thanks for the welcome guys... Here is a picture of me alongside my Dad's CB750 back in 1979, and also a shot of my "new" one that arrived last week.
I am sure I will lots of questions along the way, but from my brief time here I am seeing a TON of knowledge!
As I look at both pictures I also see that I don't have the stock exhaust on the new one. Thoughts on making that happen are certainly welcome! |

Looks to be a very nice start for a restoration .
Stock exhaust do come up occasionally . You might offer a trade of your slash cut pipes , as some guys don't care for the stock 'look' .
Browse our DOHC For Sale section . Place a Wanted ad ... |

Those kind of look like somebody chopped the ends off the stock system. Unless maybe they're just slip-ons with the stock headers.
But the ends aren't cut at the same angle. So it makes me think somebody got a little crazy with a hacksaw. Are there any baffles inside? |

To the above replies.. yeah, I agree they appear to be aftermarket pipes. Judging from the condition I don't believe they were merely hacksawed, but who knows right? |

I agree.... I am hoping the headers are stock (then start watching for stock mufflers) |

You really should learn to use the fiche :
http://www.hondapartspitstop.com/oemparts/c/honda/parts
Stock exhaust are pipe and muffler as a single unit . |

Chances are you won't just find stock mufflers. The exhaust systems are whole and not separate. You do see stock headers from time to time but that is because the stock mufflers were useless and rotted anyway and cut off.
There have been posts of guys that have fabbed up new mufflers to existing headers. It can be done but who knows what you got to work with. Somebody who just hacks might not take into account the necessary precision required to do that fab.
You might find something on eBay that is worthy but the pickings are slim and when something does show up and say "nice" be prepared to pay.
I do like the look of the OEM mufflers a lot. I think that is my favorite look with the chamfer and all.
My bike has OEM headers and slip-ons that were NOS. Stuff does come up on eBay from time to time. You just need to be ready to pull the trigger when it happens. I haven't seen it in awhile but every now and then some OEM NOS exhausts show up but they are $$$ and I haven't seen one in awhile.
I hope you start a build thread and document the progress you make with your new bike. |

Lots of questions are answered right there in the fiche. |

Thank you for all the replies... My apologies for being unfamiliar with the fiche, pretty new at the whole process here.
It is looking more and more like I either (A) clean up the ones I have currently, which likely requires getting the chrome redone or (B) buying a new set of 4 into 2's that seem plentiful while I watch for an OEM set to somehow magically appear. |

I'd say you've pretty much got it.
Be aware that if you go the aftermarket 4-2 route, they don't last nearly as well as the originals. The chrome is a lot thinner and doesn't stay bright as long. There's really only a couple aftermarket choices and none of them are fantastic. (unless you spend crazy money for an actual custom stainless exhaust) |
