Late last summer I found a 1982 CB900C for $200 I was going to turn it into a rat bike for my wife as I drive a ratted 82 gl1100. I got the bike home and was very impressed with the condition ,the chrome is all in good shape, all the rating and safety decals are in original condition,so I decided it would be a shame to rat this bike out and have decided to make it as stock as possible. I downloaded the Honda FSM but found it to be very vague in places, then I found this site and have spent the last week scouring the threads and digesting all off the info .I was pretty nervous about doing the engine ,carbs etc as I have never taken apart a 4 cylinder DOHC engine, but after researching it on this site I am feeling more comfortable about it . As it sits now I have the motor out and the head off I am going to pull the cylinders to clean and check the pistons and rings then new gaskets bottom to top ,going to clean, lap and test the valves new valve seals, clean and sinc the carbs and reassemble. I will need to get a new rear tire to pass safety check but I am hoping to keep this project under $1200.00 will post the final numbers and a pic when finished thanks for all the great info. |

Welcome to the site ripster ...
Don't wait 'till it's all done ... the journey is the fun part .
You can keep us posted with a build thread with lots of pics ( pics are easy to read and you don't have to type as much ) . |

Sounds like you got a deal for $200. I've enjoyed learning how to tinker with my bike. For $200, at least you don't have to worry about messing anything up. Good luck with the rebuild and it sounds like it will be a good bike. |

put thumbs on pistons at tdc, wiggle , if they are sloppy, rings are worn
A chain tensioner needs to be up above body of tensioner after A chain is adjusted to still have usable life |
