Hello List,

My name is Doug and my first bike is a 1982 Yamaha XJ650J Maxim with 28,000 miles of which I've put on 21,000 of them. I have had it since 1985. I restored it in 2003.

My second bike is a 1981 Honda CB750C which came out of a barn in Wayland, Michigan with 11,000 original miles. It is in need of restoration.

The third bike is a 1981 Yamaha XJ750RH Seca that I bought for my wife but it is too tall for her so I'm thinking of parting it out. I has been down a few times by the looks of it.

Bike number four is my newly acquired 1981 Honda CB750K (Cosmo Black) with 6,800 original miles. I drove this bike back to Michigan from New Jersey in July of 2007. Six hundred and fifty mile or so. I need to do some front end fork work and tune it up. I have the fork seals and o-rings but have not got the Progressive springs or SS brake lines. I have a NOS Hondaline vacuum gauge set. I'll be calling upon this board for advise as I need it. I do have a factory service manual and a shop full of equipment.

Check out my bikes on "Webshots" at the end of this message.

Thanks.

Doug

This is not a Yamaha web site, it is a Honda web site but, welcome with your Hondas though.

It was obvious to me that this site is dedicated to the Honda DOHC. It was not a mistake or misunderstanding that I posted some information about all of my bikes which happen to include a couple of Yamaha's.
I did chose to omit the fact that I also have 2 Ahrens-Fox fire engines, two vintage travel trailers (1963 Deca DeCamp and 1970 Aristocrat) and a 1966 Starcraft Holiday ski boat that my wife and I restored. I didn't think that information would have been of interest to the list.

Thanks

Doug

Bud works great for cleaning human pipes , but it ain't real good at cleaning anything else ... LOL

You have to have a big barn to store all those toys ... Wink

Don't take my greeting the wrong way. Because I am blunt does not mean you are not welcome here. I do not have a Custom and I am here.
Honda is the topic of discussion for me and I am just a little anal retentive, so I have been told. Razz
Like I said, welcome with your Hondas. 8) I just do not approve of the Yamaha motor company, that is all. Rolling Eyes

pd750,

If you knew Jim like I know Jim, you would know that Bud is the answer to everything! He's the guy I got the bike from. I know the original owner and he says that when he traded the bike to Jim it had 11,000 miles on it and was like brand new. It now has 11,000 miles on it and it looks like this.
I do have a NOS right side exhaust for the Custom. The seat, tool bag fuel tank and side covers are like new. I removed the carburetors (and rat nest) air filter and will see if the engine turns. This is going to be a fun project.

The "K" is just how I bought it in July. I have since added the three piece 'Hondaline trunk/saddle bags and some nice "Hondaline" engine guards, along with air horns.
I'll update the photos as soon as it stops raining here in MI.!!
The front end is not as tight as I would like it. I need to go through the whole front end and see what the problem could be. I know the forks won't hold air for more then a couple of days and there MIGHT be a seal leak in the left fork. I wipe the oil off and it will be fine for days, then I'll notice a small amount of oil at the seal. While I've got the front end apart I'd like to replace everything that needs to be upgraded such as Progressive springs, SS brake lines, head bearings etc.
Then it's on to the chain and sprocket replacement. The originals are on it now. I'm guessing that after 7,500 miles they should be replaced?
I'm wondering if I should swap out the spoke wheels on the "K" and install the mags from the "Custom"? I like the look of spokes but I think they MAY be causing some of my highway speed front end problems. I'm assuming the Bridgestone BT45 are the tires of choice for the K?

Thanks for the warm welcome

D

BT45s are the tire of choice on ANY bike with skinny tires. I'm on my second set and am ecstatic with them. I'm pulling the trigger on a bike with PM wheels and wide tires this week and Fuel Injection. I even like ComStars better than spoke wheels.

Out of all those, I really likie the K model and the 8N... looks like the brake levers have been tweaked on the 8N though... typical Wink

I'd keep the spokes and tune them up. 8)

It's funny you should mention the brake pedals on the 8n. I needed to rebuild them. The left side was not even hooked up. I replaced the seals, shoes and hardware and all if fine now. Nice catch.
