Just got an '81 cb750K that is complete and very original. It's my first Honda since 1965 when I had a cb72. About 16K on the clock and it doesn't look like it's been ridden much since about 2010. Tires have an '09 date code and the front still has all the little tits on it.

Unfortunately, someone decided to "rebuild" the carbs, according to the previous owner. Looks to me like they dropped the bowls, maybe cleaned out some goo and put the bowls back on with a generous layer of clear silicone to enhance the seal. It was running (sorta) on two cylinders when I picked it up last week

So I'm now, thanks to this forum, acquainted with Sean's carb book, Randakk's rebuild kits and a bunch of other stuff of which I was completely ignorant just a week ago.

I'm going to keep the bike fairly close to original for now. Chain and sprockets are on order. It appears to still have the originals and they're not terrible, but I prefer a chain with a master link.

Anyhow, thanks for the forum. I look forward to learning a lot!

Welcome aboard, and good luck and have fun with your bike!

You're right about this forum, it's a huge source of information on these bikes, and quite entertaining as well.

Make sure you check out the service manuals and other documents contained here, and you may also want to check out Mike Nixon's web site while you're thinking about carbs and such (motorcycleproject.com).

Infamous for sure! Even on bathtubs.

But it can be dissolved by denatured alcohol: a fact amply demonstrated when I pulled off the float bowls... Shocked

That silicone may be in every nook and cranny in the carb bodies and jets if it liquified in fuel and then dried. Rolling Eyes
