Hey guys!
I'm new here, living in Antwerp, Belgium, Europe! First bike I have owned was an Yamaha YBR 250, after a year I switched to a CX 500 which I bought down in the Netherlands and now I have a Honda CB750C which I also bought in the Netherlands.
This site, is, well, a goldmine for information and a whole other bunch of stuff. I'm not a mechanic, more or less a DIY when it comes to bikes with the method of trial and error, so the stuff that's on here is a great help.
From what I've seen most of you are from the States or Canada, not a lot of European members here but anyway, thanks for having me
Cheers guys. |

This crazy nickname has stayed with me since a long time, just came up with it because I needed a gaming nickname like 10 years ago. Since then, it just stuck and I use it on almost every forum I'm active!
Thanks guys
I have to mention that you guys have a great motorcycle market over there for older bikes. My dream is a CBX 1100 and you have plenty of them over there, while we have almost zero to none here! |

That might depend on her measurements and possibly hair color . |

I think it depends on where you go in Canada. Quebec has a lot of French that speak French. There are quite a few French in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick (Acadia) too as I understand it, however many that were there emigrated from there to New Orleans to flee British occupation in the 1700s.
My great grandfather came to Northern California from France in around 1880, met and married a French woman in the SF Bay area and moved to a fledgling town in the Sierra mountains that soon bore his and my last name. They had 5 children, however they only allowed English to be spoken by their children in their home in their new country. |

Genesound is 100% correct
Most people will speak English on top of their mother tongue if that one is different, like I do.

Oh the Canada jokes! I only know them from South Park and think they are brilliant.

A beautiful thing to be perfectly bilingual.
Gene, so I suppose French is extinct in your family? Or does anyone still speak it? I know it's a part of migration to learn the language of the country your migrating, but you should not forget about your native speech. I know it can disappear or be forgotten after a few generations but that would be just a shame!
Are there many French speaking people in New Orleans then right now? |

Why are you so interested in French speaking people? It's a little weird to keep asking.
People in New Orleans don't speak French, they speak English. Well they really speak Creole, but I don't think that's an officially recognized language. |

Pure curiosity. We're mostly all bilingual here in Belgium, if not we speak more than 2 languages. Just wondered how the situation was in Canada, our history classes, culture classes or even French class never mentioned anything about the language the people prefer. It's nice to learn something new.
Buuuuuuuuut anyway, if it's bothersome or "weird" I'll stop asking |

Ask away . What's weird for some may be of interest to others and not seem weird at all .
Your questions may even have some bearing on DOHC Honda motorcycles , in some weird way . |

Considering that when French was forbidden in that household was around 1900 AD, no. Nobody is even alive from that time. My great grandfather's intent was to have the kids all sound and act like normal Americans that were grounded here. The kids were all born here to naturalized parents (my great-grandparents) and they wanted them to assimilate into this country with little trace of the awkwardness and baggage that so many immigrant families exude. They all did quite well in their mainstream communities and blended in like they were here for generations. |
