Hello All
I have been lurking these forums for a little while now and so I figured I better introduce myself. My name is Brad and I am the proud new owner of a very nice 1981 CB750C. The bike was owned by an older gentleman and I happened to work with his brother who was coincidentally storing the bike in his hangar. By sheer luck I mentioned to him that I was looking for a 750. Shes only got 16K on her and is immaculate other than a bit of dust. Since my coworker's brother had no plans to ride the bike any longer I was able to pick it up for $700. My plan was a "cafe-ish" style project but I have to admit I am having a hard time with the idea of tainting a complete and good condition bike. Other than the aftermarket exhaust I believe its all stock and all there.
Please ignore the dust for now
The only catch is that it was driven into the hanger 3 years ago and has been sitting since. I hooked a battery up and turned it over so its not seized and it hasnt been exposed to the weather or anything so my plan is to rebuild the carbs, check/rebuild the brakes, check clutch, change fluids, get her synchronized and then throw on some new tires. Is there anything else I should check or know with these bikes?
Also I bought the bike in Minnesota just before moving to Kansas. Anyone here have experience with the KS DMV? I am assuming I can just bring the title in and transfer it to my name. I just sold a boat to a guy in Montana who claimed he needed a notarized bill of sale etc which makes me nervous.
I have already learned a lot here and I will make sure to bring some knowledge to the table once I get my hands dirty with this project. |

Try to find out from the previous owner what the mileage was when the valves were last adjusted. If it was more than 4k miles they need to be adjusted, if less you may want to check them anyway just to know for sure. The cam chains also need to be adjusted. |

Fixed the image size issue. I missed that in the new members thread.
Thanks all for the welcome! Also valve and cam chain adjustment noted. I wont even bother asking and just take care of it to be on the safe side.
At this point I am considering a few different options.
1. Fix her up and make the modifications I had planned
2. Fix her up and make reversible changes (bars, seat, etc) so that it can be returned to stock
3. Fix her up and sell it to buy a project bike
4. Fix her up and buy a second bike as a project (probably cannot do as I am a graduate student)
What do you guys think? |

I'd go with number 2 first, then maybe number 1. First see how you like it stock. They really are nice bikes and you might find that you like it too much to chop it apart. |

Just the first image right?
I just tried resizing and re editing three times.
They were all showing the right size after I fixed it the first time but now the first picture is enlarged again for some reason.
EDIT: They should be right now. For some reason the first picture would not resize properly on photobucket but using the advanced editor seems to have worked |

I am leaning towards getting it running and then just swapping out a few parts here and there to make it my own. Then I wont alter it permanently but I wont see another one either
Anyone have experience with the Kansas DMV? That is my most pertinent concern. |

Define what the parameters of "to nice to chop" are.
Reminds me of the HOA that wants to tell me what color I can't paint my house.
If it is yours - do what you want with it. You are not breaking any laws. |

He makes that statement because most of us would almost kill to get a nice complete bike like that. I see bobbers and choppers for sale all the time, they talk about all the money and time that they spent on it. They run and ride like shit (usually) and I have no desire to own what someone else thinks of making it "theirs". He could fix that bike, sell it for $1,500.00 take $200.00 and buy a piece of shit to bob out and still have money in the bank |
